Potato Cleanse

I have been trying to get my weight loss journey underway but my body is not cooperating so I am trying an experiment. After lots of research, vlogs, blogs and video’s I think I may have stumbled on to something brilliant. After all I have gleaned from the reading, watching and listening, I had an Epiphany. And so my experiment begins:

The Plan:

My husband and I will be eating nothing but potatoes from anywhere from 3 to 5 days and then low carb for 2 to 4 days and then back to the potatoes. My hope is that using the potato cleanse to reset our palates, curb any cravings and balance the gut flora we will then go into our low carbing – the plan is a cycling of carbing and low carbing within each week with weigh ins and measuring along the way. I am down 2,5 lbs. and .5 in on my waist in just the first day, my husband is down 3 lbs. after his first day.

The potato hack can be found all over the internet and there are several variations but for my intent I will keep our cleanse days sugar free, oil/fat free and only use herbs, spices, and vinegar as a means to get the spuds down easier once we have reached our ability to just get them in our face without gagging.

We will be drinking black coffee, unsweetened teas and water on our cleanse days and eating only the baked or boiled spuds – we are planning for 3 days but will go longer if we deem it worth it – because a 3 day spud and 4 day LC may not be the best option, I am thinking more 4/3.

Okay, lets try this yet again

I have gained so much weight when trying to lose it on the Standard American Diet (SAD). I got up to over 240 pounds and am back to low carb to relieve the pain and inflammation as well as the weight gain this diet encouraged. I also had started suffering from ocular migraines and eyeball pressure. So from 247 I am down to 238 and I can get out of bed like a normal person instead of a zombie with a severed spine now. I am tracking on my fitness pal with the macros of 5/75/20, the high fat is what I am using to help jump start my loss of water retention and inflammation, it appears to be working.

I will be flying from Los Angeles to New Orleans the end of July and I need to be as healthy as I can for the flights and the activity in the southern summer heat as I possibly can. We are doing a few walking tours and I want to be able to do it.

So for breakfast I have 2 scoops of Ketologie Vanilla protein shake in my coffee and a couple of pumps of Torani sugar free white chocolate syrup. later I have cottage cheese, frozen blueberries and pecans (thank you Lynn Terry of 90 day low carb challenge) and then dinner is a protein and salad.

What am I eating and how do i feel

I have been eating mostly roasted Brussels sprouts and asparagus along with some grilled pork ribs and I got pretty bored with the flavor of the dry rub and have made a vinegar based dressing to baste on the rest. I also made some revolution rolls for hamburgers and breakfast sandwiches, I have sausage patties, bacon and Canadian style bacon to go on the breakfast sandwiches along with over medium fried egg and cheddar cheese slice. The bacon, sausage and hamburger patties are all precooked on my batch cooking day, this way I only need to heat them quickly instead of fresh cooking them. I also batch cooked pork rips and chicken breasts – I feel so much better and the swelling has left my face hands and feet

from 201 lbs to 222 lbs in a month???

I really have know idea what the heck is wrong in my head! I find that as soon as the changes start showing I eat them into non existence and I have lost complete control. So today I went back on plan.

I have been sick for going on 4 weeks now, it started out as a stomach virus, then sinusitis, then chest discomfort and now strep throat…maybe this is directly related to the sugar and starches or the food cravings are because I was catching a bug…either way it sucks.

Tomorrow I will go on a potato hack for about a week and see if I drop as much weight as I did last fall (a pound a day) then from there ease into the keto again

on again, off again my weightloss journey…

I have been having one heck of a time staying on plan, I am not sure what my damage is that is causing me to indulge in whatever perceived yummies are presented to me.  Like yesterday at school, I had not brought an approved lunch so I went to the cafeteria for either a cobb salad or a chef salad, they were out of both so I went right for the bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato on a croissant. It was so very yummy and when I got home I was right back on plan and felt no guilt…so this seems to happen about 4 meals out of every week lately and my weight loss has bounced back and forth between  a 3 pound difference, so basically maintaining.  I need to fix whatever glitch is undermining my weightloss attempt but am completely in the dark of my issue or trigger…

I have no idea what happened but I topped out at 237 pounds in July!

Seriously! I stepped onto the scales the morning of the fourth and immediately hated myself. At that moment I decided that in the morning I would put forth a complete effort, no cheat days or cheat meals, not even a cheat bite would be allowed this time around.

I am proud to announce that from July 5th to today, August 26th, my weight has dropped down to  217.7 for a loss, so far, of 19.3 pounds. For the most part I am eating only salads and and low carb veggies and meat protein sources and my carbohydrate levels are consistently below 20 total, not net. I have coffee with an ounce of heavy cream, a tablespoon of coconut oil, a tablespoon of kerrygold unsalted, a serving of torani sugar free coconut flavor syrup, and a serving of stevia dark chocolate drops, for breakfast every morning, I do not snack because I am not hungry and this seems to be doing it for me. I drink a lot of water and occasionally, maybe three or four cans a week, of diet splenda coke.

The only place, I know for a fact, that I have lost any weight at all would have to be my feet, my shoes just flap and flop around as I walk about campus. Perhaps my face looks a bit thinner, but I am not for certain.

Trying something new

I am still wavering between 223 and 225 and so I have decided to break out of keto for a bit and try a new approach. I have been toying with the idea of Suzanne Sommers food combining, mainly because I want to eat carbs…, I know, but please do not judge.

Then I heard about the potato diet, and I really love and miss potatoes, so this is the diet I have decided on, I will do this for a week and then depending on what is happening to my weight and the way I feel, I may continue it for a month.

So, today I am having coffee with Torani sugar free vanilla bean, no cream, coconut oil or butter, just black with torani. Then I will eat some fingerling and russets I baked with the barest bit of salt, I will eat these throughout the day, whenever I feel hungry, and I will only drink water with apple cider vinegar or plain.

If things go as the research says, I should begin dropping weight immediately and have to pee like crazy all day.

I will update you as it unfolds daily!

In the famous words of Moriarty…”Miss Me?”

My weight, as of December 31, 2016 was topped out at, once again, 235…I am totally bummed. As of today, January 14, 2017 I have only managed to lose 8 pounds, it was 10 but not sure what happened?! maybe I need to drink more water or eat more food…not sure. I have been drinking about 12 to 16 ounces of coffee with a tablespoon or 2 of heavy cream and a few pumps of Torani brand sugar free white chocolate syrup. then later I may eat 1 or 2 boiled eggs with a squirt or 2 of horseradish mustard, maybe drink some iced tea with stevia or a diet splenda coke. around early evening sometimes a have a bit of deli ham or turkey wrapped in a slice of cheddar cheese with maybe mayo and horseradish mustard or a grilled pork chop on protein powder bread and a slice of pepper jack cheese, not really sure whats going on.

That being said, I am going through a multitude of oral surgeries to have my root canal-led molars of my youth replaced with dental implants, so lots of tranquilizers and antibiotics over the past year with a few months left to go til finished, and I am a full time college student (yes, I am 54) so lots of stress, I am, unfortunately am caught at school longer than planned without the proper food and am forced to sometimes indulge in what is available, and yes, I do sometimes just eat it as is, croissants and all. Oh! And there lies my weight gain problem!
